"OUTSTANDING" AS THE FIRST TEAM ENSURE SURVIVAL
FIVE-MATCH WINLESS STREAK ENDS WITH SUPERB 5-3 VICTORY AT WOODFORD WANDERERS TO STAY CLEAR OF RELEGATION

FORTUNETELLER

News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 37 of the newsletter
The FIRST TEAM travelled to Woodford Green to face one of the least sporting teams in the MSFL First Division in the penultimate fixture, knowing that a victory would ensure survival in the division for another season. Woodford tried to hype up the tension during the week with some nonsense about how they would win but this served to motivate a Fortune team keen on ending a five-match sequence without winning. I am not going to steal anyone's thunder by writing a brief match report from the little information I know about the match, other than to say that the 5-3 victory was an excellent result and ensures another season in Division One. So my thanks go to Jack Morris, who supplied the following report in detail.
"It's fair to say I'm absolutely delighted today as we beat Woodford Wanderers 5-3 in a fantastic match, in the process securing Division 1 football for next season. We were absolutely outstanding today, and this is what we can do when we have a strong squad available.

We went one up early on through Brett Stead, and really could have wrapped the game up before half time, only to concede a sloppy goal right on half-time. We said during the interval that we just need to carry on as we were, and we came flying out the traps second half and went 2-1 up through a Paul Walker screamer, closely followed by a penalty again from Walker to put us 3-1 up. Woodford went straight down the other end and got a penalty of their own, and then equalised mid way through the half. Our heads could have dropped, but we dug in and scored a fourth with about 15 minutes remaining, through sub Jason Miller, with a delightful chip. Woodford threw everything at us and were only denied an equaliser by a truly World-class save from Steven Murad, tipping an effort on to the bar. We then finished them off through a Michael Goldberg goal right at the end.

I must say I could easily nominate the whole team for team of the week, but will limit it to Josh Marks who returned from injury and put in a real shift up top, Matt Gilbery who was excellent in defence, and Michael Goldberg who ran his socks off up front. Finally I have to say Paul Walker was magnificent. If there was a better performance across the MSFL this weekend then I'd be very surprised. His job today was to close down their danger men, get stuck in, and if possible get forward when he could. Not only did he do the first part superbly, he also popped up with two crucial goals to put us in the driving seat. He will certainly feel this in the morning as he covered a ridiculous amount of ground! A real captain's performance and I really hope he gets the player of the week award this weekend.

I have to also 'big' both myself and Lee up. With a strong squad available, we had some tough decisions to make, especially with our recent run of form and the pressure of relegation upon us. But the team and tactics we went for worked a treat, and the substitution bringing Jason Miller on also worked well as he popped up with the vital fourth goal. We also decided to bring Lee on to tighten things up at 4-3, and that really was the end for Woodford."

Congratulations to the First Team who can go out and enjoy the last league fixture against champions-elect Oak Wood on April 1st without the pressure of needing to win to stay up.

BARRY GOLDSTEIN TROPHY QUARTER FINAL
Faithfold 'B' v North West Neasden 'C'
UJIA v FC Team 'B'
Blizzard Storm v
Temple Fortune 'B'
Shirley Park v Glenthorne 'B'
Ties due to be played on Sunday 25th March 2012

The SECOND TEAM played Brady Maccabi 'B' at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City and gave the top team a really close game, losing by 4-2 which was a repeat of the first encounter in December. JOEY GLYNNE and DAVE SAWYER scored the goals. Next week the Seconds take on MSFL Third Division side BLIZZARD STORM in the quarter-fianls of the Barry Goldstein Trophy (formerly the Minor Invitation Cup) and we all extend our very best wishes to the team in the quest to reach a second consecutive semi-final. The OLD BOYS TEAM had the morning off.

KEEP IT ZIPPED!
A timely reminder to those who think yapping at the referee gets you somewhere – a caution for DISSENT will cost you £16. The First Team have had four yellow cards for this offence in the past two matches, which is far too many. This message goes to ALL players representing Temple Fortune: KEEP IT ZIPPED!

PUNCTUALITY ESSENTIAL
Another reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will continue to be named and shamed on this page in future and fines/suspensions will be imposed as necessary.

ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club has been making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed from time to time to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Some of the jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same – ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.

WOODFORD'S SPICE LEAVES EGG ON FACES!
Not once during 36 seasons of running the Club and writing the newsletter have I ever ridiculed any opposition in previewing a fixture. So I was surprised to be sent an email which we circulated during the week from Aviram who runs that lovely bunch of players representing Woodford Wanderers. In attempting to motivate his team, Aviram said (corrections in parenthesis): "We have not played Temple (Fortune) this season yet due to my club getting suspended for a pathetic corner flag reason*, David and the MSFL board defiantly got that decision wrong and to be honest I'm still bitter about the whole thing. Anyway my players tell me we can regulate (relegate) them on Sunday and almost guarantee first division football next year. Our aim is to fight the drop then come back harder then ever next year and win the division hands down! We will make sure we barricade the walls off the temple and prove there is no fortune left on there (their) side. By the time we are done not even the western wall will be left standing." No doubt that was met in deepest Essex by howls of laughter but not so well received by TFFC. Jack Morris circulated the email to the First Team players as a motivation tool. Woodford Wanderers remain one of the less amiable of all MSFL clubs - basically, they're simply not a nice bunch - and it is disrespectful antics such as Avriam's that separates the likes of them from us.

I responded to their email stating that we ought to be called Temple Fortune or Fortune rather than Temple, quoting the example of Crystal Palace being called Palace rather than Crystal. The reply came back, from an embarrassed Woodford representative trying to cover up his mistake, which I chose to ignore.

"Hahahaha thought I might spice things up abit, let's hope you don't play like palace or crystal or palace or crystal or whatever."

What a pathetic bunch they are. Oh, by the way, I wrote the above at work last week well before the First Team went on to beat Woodford by 5-3! Well done, Aviram, job well done! More meaningful to me, well done to the 'Temple' First Team – JOB WELL DONE!!!

*Woodford Wanderers FC chose to ignore a fine and subsequent reminders for failing to provide corner flags at a league match. They were suspended just prior to the League fixture against Temple Fortune earlier this season, resulting in them forfeiting the match. Completely and utterly their own fault.

MACCABI FOOTBALL REVIEW
MSFL review by Danny Caro, www.thejc.com/msfl
MSFL FIRST DIVISION
BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'A' 1, NORSTAR 'A' 1
As predicted, promotion-chasing Norstar finished all square with Brixton at Clowes, with a goal from Jonny Kay earning Phil Peters' men another crucial point. It was a game that Brixton needed to win, but a strike from Sam Franks leaves things out of their hands.
CHIGWELL ATHLETIC 0, REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE 'B' 0
Chigwell and Redbridge B failed to close the gap on Norstar after cancelling one another out at Peter May.
WOODFORD WANDERERS 3, TEMPLE FORTUNE 'A' 5
Goals from Brett Stead, Paul Walker (2), Jason Miller and Mike Goldberg helped Fortune ease their relegation fears after leapfrogging Woodford following an eight-goal thriller in Woodford Green.

MSFL FOURTH DIVISION
SPEC FC 3, FC TEAM 'C' 2
SPEC FC maintained their promotion hopes with a nail-biting 3-2 win over FC Team C, courtesy of strikes from Laurence Rosenthal, Ashley Lawrence and Ashley Burns.
TEMPLE FORTUNE 'B' 2, BRADY MACCABI 'B' 4
Two goals from player-manager Josh Dagul helped Brady put one hand on the league title as they overcame Temple Fortune 'B' in a six-goal thriller. Further strikes from Dan Harrod and Daniel Hildebrand put the icing on the cake.

MASTERS REVIEW

HENRY SWERNER MASTERS TROPHY
Brady 'A' are into the last four after a close-fought quarter-final which saw them draw 2-2 with North London Raiders, with Brady's Gideon Barnett scoring twice, and Lloyd Becker and Ashley Davidson scoring for Raiders. Brady triumphed 4-3 in the subsequent penalty shoot-out and will play London Maccabi Lions in the semi-final.
The other semi-final will pit Glenthorne United 'A' against South Mancunians after they won their last-eight tie against EDRS Stonegrove 6-2 courtesy of a hat-trick from Marc Powell plus goals from Jonny Feinmesser, Ben Kent and Joel Nathan. Malcolm Joseph and Martin Seifert scored for EDRS.

DIVISION TWO
Hendon Harriers beat Clayhall 8-1 thanks to doubles from Paul Herszaft and Richard Smith. Ilan Cohen, Perry Somers, Andrew Diamond and Adam Greenblatt completed the scoring.
Marshside overcame Glenthorne 'C' by a single goal, with Danny Sofizade's long-range strike the difference between the teams.
David Price, David Pollock, Darren Coon and Marc Morris all scored as London Maccabi Lions beat Brady 'B' 4-0 to go to the top of the table.
